Thunderstorms

Student Response
Where would you rather visit, Florida or Colorado? I would rather go to Florida. Florida is very warm and has beaches. It also has thunderstorms. I really like thunderstorms. Florida has great entertainment such as, Bucsh Gardens, the beach, Disney and many others. The best thing about Florida is its weather. Florida has sunny and bright days. It also has rainy days and thunderstorms. I adore both sun and storms.
Florida is known as “The Sunshine State.” I know that most people love warm and sunny weather. Florida is very warm in the summer months. In July the average is 92.6 degrees! The low average temperature in July is 73.4 degrees! That is still really warm. Florida is hot and humid. In the spring and summer, many people come to Florida to enjoy the sun, the beach and many outdoor activities.
Florida also has a lot of thunderstorms. I personally love thunderstorms. Thunderstorms are exciting to watch and listen to. Florida’s thunderstorms happen most often in the summertime. They can be few minutes long or last a couple of hours. In a typical year, parts of Florida can get more than 60 inches of rain! Florida has more thunderstorms than any other state. In some parts of the state there are over 80 days with thunder and lighting in a typical year. Because of that, Florida could also be known as the “Thunderstorm Capital.”
Florida’s summertime air is hot and humid. When the ocean breeze pushes this heavy air up into the cooler sky, it causes an unstable state which leads to lightnig and thunder. That is how Florida’s storms form.
I would also rather visit Florida than Colorado because you can’t predict the weather in Colorado. From season to season, day to day, even minute to minute, it is hard to predict the weather in the Colorado Rockies. At breakfast it could be sunny and warm. By lunchtime there could be a rumbling thunderstorm. At dinner the Rocky Mountains may have a foot of snow. In the Colorado Rockies, there can be hailstones the size of grapefruits. Florida cannot have hailstones or snow. Most people do not like hail or snow.
In Florida, you won’t have the same weather everyday. If you had the same weather everyday, that would be boring. Florida has a little bit of sun and storms. If you like thunderstorms and sunshine, this is the perfect place to be.
