Geocaching

Student Response
My first experience geocaching is one I’ll never forget. The thrill of getting close to the cache site; the adventure trying to get around obstacles on my way, and the unforgettable prize at the end.
I started geocaching when I was 5, and have gone once or twice a month since. I remember my first time like it was yesterday. I was listening to the radio when I heard about this geocaching thing. I thought it sounded interesting, so I begged my parents to let me try it. They said OK, and drove me to Chicago, where the urban cache was.
“We’re almost there.” My dad said. When he parked the car, I jumped out and started screaming for joy. My mom set up the GPS with my dad while I waited impatiently.
“Hurry up, hurry up, I wanna go get a toy from the spot, hurry up!” I complained. As soon as my parents figured out the GPS, we were off on my first adventure.
We stopped an ate some pizza because it had been a long drive. After the pizza, we set out, walking toward the suburbs where the prize awaited.
“My feet hurt, how much longer do we have to walk for?” I whined.
“Not far.” Mom said quietly.
As we approached the destination, I got more and more impatient. We arrived in a park in a town I didn’t know. The cache was somewhere in this 15 meter radius my dad told me.
“Kyle, look everywhere you possibly can to try to find a tiny box.” Mom stated.
I looked everywhere. I overturned every stone I saw. I looked in tree stumps and threw leaves. I checked under benches and worked my hardest to find my prize. Sadly, it was nowhere to be found.
“Well that’s to bad.” Mom said sadly.
“Hey Kyle, look what I found!” Dad exclaimed. He had found the cache that I longed to see. I wondered what the prize was. My dad handed me the box, it was heavy. I opened it up and saw my prize. It was beautiful. It was a 1969 Ford Mustang Boss matchbox car. This was amazing. I put a toy G. I. Joe action figure.
To this day, I still have that car. It is in my geocache prizes collection. All of my other prizes I just put in another geocache box. I bring my first prize with me every time I geocache to remember how much fun it really is to do. This is why geocaching should be something the adventure club should do. It is one of the best experiences that you can get from seeking something. Overall, geocaching is the best time I’ve ever had, so I think my friends in adventure club will too.
