Litter is a big problem. It can lead to animals dying, an overdose of trash in the beach and lakes and the poisoning of the earth. But I think that the most dangerous type of clutter is electronic clutter. Most electronics that are thrown out are made of mercury and lead. Now when these electronics are thrown out, the lead and mercury can leak out into the soil and can be deadly when it does. I beleive that for the community service project, our school shoud do the technology recycling day.
All the electronic litter started when new electronics were being biult by the day. When new products came, people threw out the old ones. The electronics are now being made with cathode ray tubes aka CRT’s. CRT’s have a high lead content and can be a hazard to the environment. If the CRT’s go into landfills, it can contaminate our water supply. ( Tech Trash: The Trouble with Tubes) The CRT’s can be recycled, but it is very hard to do so. There is an imbalance of glass being recycled and disposed of and that is causing a lot of companies to shut down. ( Tech Trash: The Trouble with Tubes)
When the electronics are not being recycled, it can cause a chain reaction of karma* or bad luck. This means that plants can die, leading to the hunger of herbivores on a farm. That can come to us from the lack of friuts, veggies, meat and dairy. We need to watch what we do with our trash to save the earth and ourselves. Those are the reasons why I beleive we should do a technology recycling day for the community service project.
