Invasive Species

Student Response
When invasive plants are introduced into a new environment sometimes they thrive, and sometimes they don’t. Why is this? Today I will explain why this happens and so on.
Non-native plants will sometimes thrive and take over other native species. The reason why they thrive is this, back in their native land there is usually some type of bug or animal that will eat this plant, but when they are introduced to a new environment this bug might not live there. When there is no bug or animal to eat that plant in it’s new environment, it usually thrives. See, it’s all about the right conditions.
Also in some cases a non-native plant will grow badly in it’s new environment. This is because sometimes if people notice this invasive plant they will apply efforts to kill this plant.
It says right in source three, “High Point employs goats to eradicate weeds, kudzu”, paragraph two, that “Searcy, owner of Wells Farm in the North Carolina mountain community of Horse Shoe, recently brought about 50 of his goats to the property surrounding the mill ti begin eating their way through the kudzu, grass, small trees and other growth as part of a neighborhoods revitalization effort.” this quote that proves that people are taking a stand against invasive species and such and that sometimes they won’t grow so greatly.
Also another reason why plants won’t grow so well in it’s new environment is that sometimes as I said earlier that there will be bugs and animals that will eat that plant, thus knocking down it’s numbers.
A quote that will prove that sometimes non-native plants will sometimes grow well in a new environment is “Although it is not native to the continent, the ivy can be pruned regularly so that it does not grow out of control.” which proves that sometimes plants will grow fast in it’s new habitat. This quote was from source one, “Plant Invaders!”, paragraph seven, “Are All Non-Native Plants Problematic?”.
Overall, invasive plants sometimes will grow rather well in a new environment and sometimes they don’t and they die. This is due to bugs, animals, humans, habitat conditions, and more.
