3D Printers
Student Response
3-D computers may cause quite a problem for our library . There may be many issues we could come across if we put these printers the library . For example, Copyrighting issues and it is expensive to purchase.
In source #2 it states, “For $1,299, plus shipping, you can even buy one from staples.” there are other things we can buy for our library that will do us more good than these 3D printers. We can buy nooks or other reading devices to expand our collection. These printers will add added costs and will cost a lot to maintain.
In source #3 it states, “being able to identify when copyright does and does not protect and object is the first step in knowing if copying or building upon it will lead to trouble.” When a piece of work is copyrighted it is protected. No one can take credit for that work and if they do they can get in big trouble. Printing out objects from other people’s work can cause a problem with copyrighting and I don’t think our library needs this added stress to worry about violating copyright rules.
So as one can see, purchasing and adding these 3D printers to our library will cause extra stress and potentially cause problems that we don’t need to deal with. It also is a pricey item. We can use this money in a more logical way to improve our library.
